Grizzlies vs. St. Albert Fury
Millwoods Field #1
1st Quarter
With a great weekend to start off the fall schedule for the CDMFA the 3rd place Millwoods Grizzlies take on the 4th Place St. Albert Fury in the Johnny Bright Division on home turf. With Millwoods kicking off, the defense is put to the test right away as St. Alberta makes a few surges up the filed. The Fury are finally stopped at the Grizzlies 50 yard line and are forced to punt. The punt is not as good as the Fury hoped as it only gets to the Millwood’s 40 yard line. With # 5 Matthew Stanford leading the charge the offense takes the field. On second down Matthew hands the ball to #96 Jonathan Muamba who then hands it off to his brother #87 Frederic Muamba who runs it down the field deep into Fury territory. With the goal line in his sights # 5 Matthew Stanford pitches the ball to #31 Jeremiah Varghese who does a great job of weaving through the Fury’s defense for a 30yrd plus touchdown. Making sure they stay ahead Millwoods ops for the 2-point conversion and with a great pitch to the left to # 30 Fabeian Johnson’s they easily convert the touchdown. This now puts the Grizzlies on the board with a score of 8-0. After the kick-off and a great tackle by #96 Jonathan Muamba it puts the Fury starting deep into their own territory. On the Fury’s first possession they fumble the ball and Millwoods gets the ball back. With a few miss communicated calls finally on 3rd down # 5 Matthew Stanford hands it off again to #31 Jeremiah Varghese who barrels down the right side of the field to crank up the score to 14-0. Again with Millwoods wanting to make sure they stay ahead of any potential threats the Fury could put against them the try for the 2-point conversion and are successful. The score is now 16-0. With some undisciplined play action the Grizzlies take a costly unnecessary roughness call, which gets applied to their kick off. With time winding down in the 1st quarter the Fury surge back and with a beautiful throw by their Quarterback they get down to Millwoods 25yrd line.
2nd Quarter
Luck does not seem to be on the Fury’s side starting off the 2nd quarter as they turn the ball over on downs deep into St. Albert’s territory. With a few great surges Millwoods again with great quarterbacking by # 5 Matthew Stanford gets the ball to #72 Sheldon Shaw who runs it in for a 30 yard touchdown. # 84 Sarah Rea comes out for the convert but is unsuccessful. The score now 22- 0.
Not having much luck still and only a few successful first downs the Fury are forced to punt the ball and the Grizzlies take over on The Fury’s 45yd line.
The Grizzlies lead by # 5 Matthew Stanford makes a beautiful pass 45yrd pass to #87 Frederic Muamba for another Grizzlies touchdown. # 84 Sarah Rea is successful with the convert to make the score 29-0. Kicking off the ball #42 Himmat Judge gets it deep into the Fury’s end zone who concede the point putting the score now at 30- 0.
With the Fury now realizing they have to do something they finally start to play and for the rest of the second quarter seem to out play the Grizzlies. This action is rewarded as they score a touchdown with a minute left in regulation time. Going for the short kick in hopes of getting the ball back is unsuccessful as the Grizzlies get the ball at their 45 yard. Not giving up the Fury put some great pressure on the offence forcing them to give up the ball. Luck was not on the Fury’s side as the whistle blows to end the 1st half. 30-0
3rd Quarter
The Fury mostly dominates the 3rd quarter of the game but with no avail. The Grizzlies defense makes some great stands to hold the score at 30 – 0. There was multiple turnovers’ on both sides with a great interception nearing the end of the quarter by Millwoods to finally regain the ball back at The Fury’s 45 yard line.
With frustration starting to show on St. Albert’s team some after the whistle action gets the notice of the referees and both a Grizzlies and a Fury player are ejected from the game. The Grizzlies try a double reverse and make considerably strides down the field to be again are called for holding and are forced to repeat 1st down. The whistle is blown to end the 3rd quarter. The score still 30-6
4th Quarter
Knowing that disciplined football wins games the offense get’s a chance to put some points on the score board as Millwoods starts the quarter on the Fury’s 32 yard line. # 5 Matthew Stanford throws a great pass to #72 Sheldon Shaw to bring them down to St. Albert’s 10 yard line. #96 Jonathan Muamba takes a great throw from # 5 Matthew Stanford with minutes left in the game in for another Millwoods touchdown. # 84 Sarah Rea comes out to again make a great kick for the convert but the ball is blocked the score is now 36-6.
#20 Mohammad Kahn is brought in and gets his chance to show his skills. It takes a few plays but the Grizzlies get the ball down to the Fury’s 22 yard line. The Fury’s defense works hard and is successful in stopping any more touchdowns by the Grizzlies and are able to get the ball back. With some good fight still in them the Grizzlies defense force the Fury to punt the ball. #20 Mohammad Kahn takes this opportunity to get another touchdown play but is rocked by the Fury’s defense and has to go off. With mere seconds left the Ref’s call the game. The final score Millwoods Grizzlies 30 the St. Albert Fury 6. Thanks to the parents, kids, coaches and of course the kids from both teams for coming out.

Bantam Grizzlies vs Sherwood Park Wolverines
S.A.P.
1st Quarter
The Grizzlies are 2 games into the regular season and at 2 – 0 and you would think it could be Any Given Sunday as they battle the 0 and 2 Sherwood Park Wolverines. The first quarter is plagued by turnovers from both teams but finally about 10 minutes into the 1st quarter # 31Jeremiah Varghese pushes it across the goal line to start the scoring. With the Grizzlies unable to covert, the score is 6-0. Wolverines but up a good fight over the next few plays but the veteran Grizzlies stop the run game with great defensive action leading to a sack of the wolverines QB by # 66 Garret Kachuk with 2 min left in the quarter. The Wolverines are deep into Grizzlies territory and try to make a 25yrd throw. But the sharp sense of # 96 Jonathan Muamba intercepts the ball and runs it down the field for 85yrds for another Grizzlies touchdown. Being unable to make the previous convert the Grizzlies offense calls for a 2 point convert. #30 Fabeian Johnson does a great job in getting the run across the line for the convert to find out his team is called for a no end penalty. The grizzlies try it again and are successful with a run by #87 Frederic Muamba and great path making by #68 Parke Robson. 1st quarter ends with the Millwood’s Grizzlies ahead 14- 0
2nd Quarter
The second quarter starts off with an out of bounds kick which gives the Wolverines good field position. Using this advantage the Wolverines using only 2 plays and moving the ball up the field were able to score their first touchdown. The Grizzlies defense come out firing as the Wolverines try for a 2 point covert but are unable to make it happen. Score now 14-6 Grizzlies with 9 min left before the half.
With the Grizzlies still feeling good about the stop on the goal line for the convert the Wolverines kick off deep into # 30 Fabeian Johnson’s hands. He runs up the field for 80 yrds and into the endzone for what he thought was another Grizzlies touchdown. Unfortunately there was an illegal block in the back field by the grizzlies and the TD was no good. The Grizzlies must now start in Wolverine’s territory on their 40yd line. With good play calling by the Grizzlies coaches QB #5 Matthew Stanford throws a lovely pass to # 87 Frederic Muamba to run it in for another touchdown. Again going for the 2 point convert # 31 Jeremiah Varghese rams it through for the covert. Score now 22- 6 Millwoods
With still 8 min left before half time the Grizzlies kick it deep into Wolverines territory. # 87 Frederic Muamba barrels down the field to make a great tackle and holding the Wolverines at their 20yrd line. With the defense up for the challenge again and a keen eye # 92 Brant Shultz intercepts the pass by the Wolverines and gives the Grizzlies the opportunity to try another Offensive charge. This was not to be though as the ball is turned over back to the Wolverines by a great QB sack. For the next 5 minutes the ball is bounced back and forth by both teams with neither team getting past half.
3rd Quarter
With Sherwood Park kicking the ball off to start the 3rd quarter the Grizzlies Special team #96 Johnathan Muamba runs it back to the Wolverines 37yd line.
Now with good field position a great handoff to #31 Jeramiah Varghese allows him to carry it into the end zone. The score now is 28 – 6. # 84 Sarah Rea goes for the 1pt covert and gets blocked. She is lucky though as The Wolverines are called offside and she gets another chance and doesn’t miss. The score is now 29- 6 for the Grizzlies.
Again the Grizzlies kick off to Sherwood Park. #42 Himmat Judge drives the ball back to the Wolverines 18yrd line. With now only 7minutes left in the 3rd quarter the Wolverines must start deep in their own territory. With the Wolverines offense taking the field they try to move the ball up the field but are unsuccessful and have to punt it away. Their bad luck continues with getting a penalty on the kick for not having an end and kicking it out of bounds. This gives the Grizzlies great field position as they get to start on the Wolverines 25yrd line and end the 3rd quarter 29-6 still.
4th Quarter
With some miscommunication and some bad luck the Grizzlies turn over the ball to Sherwood Park who take advantage of this and score their 2nd touchdown. They are able to get the 2 point conversion and turn on the heat on the Grizzlies to make the score 29-14. Still on a roll the Wolverines try a short kick and are successful. Their determination is stopped short as a number of the Grizzlies defense force the to turn it over on downs.
With a new determination by the Grizzlies offense and great plays from # 31 Jeremiah Varghese & # 35 Greg Vallee they are able to get the ball down to the Wolverines 30 yrd line. Once again with a great quarter back play by # 5 Matthew Stanford he hands it off to #31 Jeremiah Varghese for another touchdown. Along with a 2 point conversion made by #96 Jonathon Muamba the score is now 37- 14
Kicking off again the wolverines can’t handle the ball a the Grizzlies # 76 Chase LaBatte recovers the ball. With a change in quarterback # 20 Mohammed Khan throws a great 40yrd pass to #96 Jonathan Muamba for a touchdown. The 1point conversion is good and the score is now 43- 14. With the coaches feeling secure they start putting in some of their junior players to help build up the skill. Continuing to hold the Wolverines at bay and on the last play of the game defensive player # 33 Cole Benson makes a great pick at corner for the Grizzlies to regain possession. Time runs out for the Wolverines as they take a punishing loss to the Millwood’s Grizzlies 43 – 14.

It was a sunny Sunday morning when the Millwoods Grizzlies visited Sherwood Park for a game with the Warriors but it did not turn out to be a very sunny day for the Grizzlies or their supporters. The Warriors scored early, scored late and scored often to hand Millwoods their first loss of the young season.
The Warriors have a big, fast team and they proved to be too much for the Grizzlies on this day.
Thanks for the game Warriors; we will give you a better game when we meet in the playoffs.

Saturday morning the Stony Plain Bombers visited Millwoods Park for a contest with the Grizzlies. The Bombers kicked off to the Grizzlies to start the game and the Grizzlies moved the ball before turning the ball over on downs. The Bombers picked up a couple of first downs before their offence stalled and they too turned the ball over on downs. The Grizzlies scored early in the second quarter and would not relinquish the lead.
It was a tough well played game but the Bombers had a short bench and were running on empty late in the game.
Congratulations to the Bombers on a tough, well played game that was closer than the final score would indicate.

Game Story – September 4, 2010
Stony Plain Bombers vs. Mill Woods Grizzlies
Although the day was cool and windy, the sun did shine occasionally and although The Bombers lost the game, many of the players did shine as well.
Darian had some really good tackles in the first quarter, including one leaping ninja type hold that took one of the largest Grizzlies down. This tackle got the fans going early on. Sam F. had a great run early on in the quarter that helped The Bombers gain some yards. The team held their own during the first quarter with no points on the scoreboard.
The Grizzlies broke out during the second quarter, bringing in the player dubbed “Big Tony”, who was definitely big and a little intimidating. The Bombers showed no fear though and continued to work as a team to bring him down. Unfortunately the Grizzlies managed to score 3 touchdowns this quarter. Samuel D. had a great kick return in this quarter and Darian and Quade were strong for The Bombers offense. Score was 22-0 for The Grizzlies at end of first half.
Bombers continued to struggle in the third quarter, allowing another touchdown for The Grizzlies. Quade had a great run this quarter and Trystan really helped out with some nice tackles. Matthew and Riley also received a lot of cheers this quarter from the sidelines.
Grizzlies got one touchdown in the fourth, finishing the game at 36-0.
Although we lost this one, the boys played hard. Darian never gave up and was observed many times throughout the game helping out the rookies with plays and positions.
